Participate in a timely and interactive conversation with Lisa Gray, Associate Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion within Campus Life at UMBC and Debby Irving, racial justice educator and acclaimed author of Waking Up White.
This workshop supports white people and (white-identified people of color) in making the paradigm shift from ‘fixing’ and ‘helping’ those believed to be inferior to focusing on internalized white superiority and its role in perpetuating racism at the individual, interpersonal, institutional, and cultural levels in Howard County and beyond. Using historical and media images, Irving examines how she used her white-skewed belief system to interpret the world around her. Includes pauses for reflection, dialogue, and Q&A.
Gray and Irving conclude the evening with an honest and authentic conversation about racial identity and white privilege.
