Attend conversation circles at any one of six locations (whose locations you can see by clicking the REGISTER button). You do not have to attend at your own congregation’s site, and you’re invited to participate even if you’re not a member of any congregation. On November 20, 2017, persons of faith in Howard County — Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Unitarian Universalist, and others — gathered to launch an effort to talk more honestly and openly about issues of race and racism among us. That evening’s program was a first step. The effort continues with monthly conversation circles from 7 – 8:30 pm on the 4th Tuesdays of each month: February 27, March 27, April 24, and May 22.
In small discussion circles (10-12 persons per group) at several congregations, trained facilitators will guide participants through a process of uncovering biases and then developing and practicing new behaviors to change those biases. The more we share honest dialogue with one another, the more adept we’ll become at confronting our own implicit biases and dismantling racism in our communities.
